April 2005: Spring, time of Renewal! Antique Miniature Furniture and Faience Shaped Antique Objects

Dear friends, bonjour:

Spring Renewal
If you are like us, in Spring we like to fill our flower pots with new plants and to renew our arrangements of antiques. One way we refresh our lives and renew ourselves is also by doing a little redecorating around our home. I usually choose one room, or just one wall, and re-think the arrangement of a few antique objects. In the process, Guy and I part with furniture we like less, thus gaining new space for art or antique pieces that correspond more to our actual moods.
If in your own spring renewal enthusiasm you find you want to sell some antiques, please refer to our August 2004 Letter giving tips on how to sell French antiques:

Antique Miniature Furniture
Antique miniature furniture have charm and a bold presence. They were either made as toys, or as sales tools for the traveling cabinet-maker ebeniste. Samples of his work gave context to a craftsman’s knowledge and skills.
Among miniature antiques, armoires, tables, benches and seats were popular, as well as breakfronts, buffets and chests of drawers. We have a miniature closed-bed from Brittany with spindles, an antique country rush-seat chair, an armoire with glass door and a small bamboo chest with five drawers. For small rooms, or anyone with little space left, those create the ambiance in a soft, understated way.

Antique Faience Shaped Objects - "Pieces de Forme":

Originality is often associated to good design, and French faience creators didn’t lack any! See our antique faience "Tulipieres" vases, shell-shaped dishes, heart-shaped inkwells, sconces with bagpipes, small violins, vases a secrets, oil and vinegar cruets, gourdes, mini chests of drawers and generally all kind of animals holding salt, pepper or mustard. Surrounded by a natural landscape with barrels and a hut in the center, our pyrogen - match lighter - illustrates the creativity of the French faience makers:

Guy and I wish you a wonderfully refreshing Spring season and look forward to hearing from you by email or phone, or to meet you at the Wayne Center.

Till next time,
Guy and Daniele
